97 cavalier: the ignition switch..Chevy..disconnect..theft light

Resolved Question:

how to reset the theft system on my 97 cavalier i have replaced the lock and key and the battier. Im think about replacing the ignition switch but any ways i have tried doing the Chevy reset wear you put the emergency brake on then you disconnect the battier for ten min then reconnected the battier and turned the car to the on position then let it set for 15 min you do that 4 time for a total time of 1 hour the only think was that my theft light don't blink even the first time i did this process now it starts once in a great well it does this alot when it get cold how can i fix it

Hi, glad to be of help. The relearn procedure is 30 minutes not 1 hour and it is not done 4 times. Try this first, here is the correct procedure:

Theft deterent systems, relearn procedures

Passlock III Relearn

30-Minute Relearn Procedure

this procedure after replacing any of the following components:

The PASS-Key III plus keys

The theft deterrent module (TDM)

The powertrain control module (PCM)

procedure is not available on vehicles equipped with EXPORT configured TDMs.

When performing the 30-minute relearn procedure, all
previously learned keys will be erased from the TDM memory. Additional keys
may be learned after performing the relearn procedure.

replacing a TDM with a GM SPO Replacement Part, ensure the procedure to setup a
new TDM is performed prior to the 30-Minute Relearn Procedure.

With a master vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine

Observe the security indicator. After approximately 10 minutes,
the telltale will turn OFF.

Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.

Repeat steps 1-3 two
more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.

ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

With a master vehicle key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has
now learned the key transponder information and/or the ECM has now learned the
fuel continue password.

If additional keys are required to be learned, continue to step

With a previously learned master key, turn ON the ignition, with
the engine OFF.

Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.

Within 10 seconds insert the key to be learned. Turn ON the
ignition with the engine OFF. The vehicle has now learned the new key.

Passlock III system uses a standard ignition key to rotate a
specially coded ignition switch.
