vehicle: 1999 chevy venture van Problem: after driving just about 20 mins on freeway, van "chugs" or labors to accelerate, i let off the gas pedal then continue to drive and it is fine. minutes later smoke fills the van with smell of burning plastic: we already checked under the dash for a "burn" and found only 3 shorts... fixed them. then we changed the 2 filters under the dash and cleaned out the vents etc... the van does not overheat or stall. When i shut the van off it restarts with no hesitation. we also checked under the hood for evidence of burning and found none.

Hello, I'm Cam. Please include all the details about your issue so I can accurately advise you. I cannot see your vehicle so please be detailed.
When did you last change the fuel filter?
not in the last 2 yrs I have owned it
Ok I would look to that being plugged.
that simple? where does the smoke come from
the burning plastic smell
On that, where did you find the shorts?
under the dash
I ask because the wiring for the fuel pump goes under the carpet to the rear drivers seat area
so if the pump is failing or shorting that could cause it.
Did any systems go out when the shorts happened?
no the car did not stall, i shut it off, but restarted it in a few minutes without any problems
That is strange.
ok.... but u gave me new insight........ty so much
Is there any more I can get you?
well just in case that's not the problem where would u go next?
Test fuel pressure and check wiring in the air filter box for the Powertrain Control Module
ok ty so much are these expensive fixes?
Powertrain Control Module wiring is just a repair,
pump is about 500
connector is 200 or so.
wow... ok that should be it ty so much.......
