it sounds as if you may be off a 1/4 turn of where they go into the control arms

they are the same..
you can tell when they are in right just by the distance of the cam plate that puts the tension on the bars,,,you need to use a c-clamp to push the cams up to bet the tension bolt adjuster in the crossmember
if you haven't already.....
you need to assemble the complete front end,,control arms.spindles ect.
