Hello, I'm Cam. Please include all the details about your issue so I can accurately advise you. I cannot see your vehicle so please be detailed.
You are changing the front axle shafts or thefront diff?
I am replacing the bearings on theright side of the differential
i have unbolted the cv joints
Ok, front diff?
If so then once they are out, there are 2 nuts on the right axle tube, remove those.
REmove the front drive shaft.
Remove the 3 bolts that hold the steering box to the frame after turning the wheel all the way right and popping the pitman arm off the relay rod.
thats where I am stuck it wont come out
what will not come out/
sorry I guess I am typing too fast.
the cv joint that I disconnected from the unit that enngages when in 4 wheeel
Ok they are set into the flange a but, use a hammer to hit the housing a bit then they will push back and you can drop them off the diff
done now i need to get to the bearing
how do I get the bearing out
is it in the axle tube?
Or the diff side bearing?
inside the diff
do you have the whole diff housing out then
no still on vehicle
Ok you need to take the whole housing off then split the case to replace the right diff carrier bearing
so there is a lock ring inside the housing?
the inside roller bearing is pressed on the carrier so there is no way to remove it while in the truck.
would it be possible to get a diagrahm of the inside of the diff
But if I may, it sounds like you are talking more about the right axle shaft bearing.
What exactly is happening?
I have a severe leak right behind where the axle goes into the ddiff
Thats the axle seal then, not the bearing on the diff.
the bearing must have collapesed because I hear grinding
So once you get the cv shaft off, and the 2 nuts, remove the wiring and 5 bolts that hold the axle tube to the diff.
Then pry down on the diff and work the axle housing off.
ok the axle seal do Istill need to remove the diff
no, not the whole diff, just the housing that holds the front axle actuator.
can i send you a picture
part#58-59 are where it is leaking
part #58-59 is where it is leaking
Ok you told me right, that is left.
So this gets easy, hit the back side of that flange with a hammer HARD to pop it out.
and if that little bearing is bad you can use a slide hammer to remove it and pound a new one in while in the vehicle.
i apologize looking wrong side it is part 2-3
can i still pop it out
Ok so take the 5 bolts out and all the parts 1-16 come out then you can remove a snap ring on the end of the shaft under there and slide the axle out .
only with the whole housing on the bench.
the whole right side axle tube housing I man.
ok so no way to slide part 1 out without taking whole diff out correct
There are some that say you can, but then parts fall apart and you would need to remove it anyway.
ok drained oil remove 5 bolt disconected acutator and the two bolts to the frame
now just on the diff side of the housing, pry down do the whole right side comes down.
Then slide the axle hosuing off.
You need to pry down enough so the right axle tube clears the studs.
sorry Ihave it out thanks a much,
