2002 Impala: dash lights..entire dash board to find the problem

Resolved Question:

The dash lights in my 2002 Impala go on and off intermintently. Dealer wants to tear out the entire dash board to find the problem. $100 hour for labor adds up fast. Any suggestions

Hello jacustomer, are the dash lights the only lights that do this? How about the external lights?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes the dash lights are the only ones.

One last question. Is it just the instrument panel or all of the inside lights including the radio?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
All lights including the radio.

Okay. MOst of the time it is a short in the dimmer switch knob next to the headlamp switch. The connection becomes loose and this happens. It may also be a bad connection at the body control module but that is not as likely.
