2008 HHR ss: belt..snap..Shop manual only said to remove air box

Customer Question

I have a Chevy 2008 HHR ss. Tried to change serp belt but room between tensioner arm and fram not enough to let snap on tensioner tool, perfrance tool too long. Shop manual only said to remove air box then just showed pictures. I did find remove motor mount and lifted engine just enough to get tool into 3/8 square to pull back tenionor but had to block up engine at oil pan not good way to work. please advise and other way I have shop manual for 2.2 & 2.4 said to go from under veh but fram member still too close to get tool in place. About the serp belt from GM part it is a Dayco rubber band belt.  When Gates belt are 100 % better do not streach or slip and work silently. By the way I have  Two chevy ss have done the first one but cracked oil pan had to have replaced by Dealer. AC now colded and Alt charging 14.5 volts. That get into another Question Why battery in trunk and useing fram for ground when fram makes the weakist ground on veh. First ss ran #3 cable from front engine to fram ground back to battery in trunk  pick up 1 full volt on charge even at -20 degree air temp. 2 ss have done yet just charges 13 volt best. Hello. My name is Alex and I'll be assisting you with your question.

You'll need a ratcheting serpentine belt tool with a very thin profile like the one on this web page:

snapon ratcheting serpentine belt thinest on market still too thick to get in with out raising engine to get between fram and tensionor arm. and why use body as ground

when tried to jump start another veh could not do. does GM engineers think the battery not need engine heat in winter or just put battery in coldest part of veh to freze up first

change is a night mare must remove spare tire. but it is a nice sales open hood asked salesman where is battery? he did not know. Asked if starts without battery get veh for free?.
