We have a 07 Equinox, all wheel drive..clunk..vibration..faster

Resolved Question:

we have a 07 Equinox, all wheel drive. When you accel from a stop, it has a clunk clunk type of sound that begins at about 20 mph and continues until you get up to maybe 35 mph. One feels this repeating sound (mostly vibration and seems to get faster) until the car smooths out at a higher speed. But I wonder if the the car is not still doing it, just the vibration gets lost in the other noises, tires, etc. About 3 months ago, we had the rear end (differential? ) fluid/lube changed and there is a special additive or component that was required and put in. This reduced the vibration for awhile, but now the clunk clunk vibration is increasing again.

Hello jacustomer, was the vehicle doing this before the fluid in the differential was changed?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
yes---we had bought the car used and i started to notice the sound/vibration.

Okay. If the noise started right after the differential fluid was replaced then chances are that the wrong fluid was installed. If the correct fluid was used then you may have a problem starting in the transfer case. It is common for it to make noise when it is worn out or when the fluid is dirty.
