1995 chevy: will not shift from 4w high to 2w high

my 1995 chevy pickup will not shift from 4w high to 2w high. what could be the cause?

is it push-button or does it have the mechanical shifter in the floor?

does the shifter move when you push the button on top of the shifter?

yes, the shifter moves. it will go into 4w low &into 4w high , but not into 2w high. going into 4w low,it shifts alittle hard. i have to jerk on the shifter.

ok

this sounds as if your shift fork may be worn inside the transfer case.....the transfer case may be low on fluid and has caused the fork to wear
