2005 Malibu Maxx: No interior lights work, High beams also off..fuses

Resolved Question:

2005 Malibu Maxx. No interior lights work, High beams also off. The high beam fuses are OK in the engine compartment. Fuse #10 for interior lights blows up when I replace it in instrument panel. Battery was recently replaced.

GM Tech (Cam) :

Let me look at the schematic for that fuse.

Customer:

Hi

GM Tech (Cam) :

How are things tosay?

GM Tech (Cam) :

Today?

GM Tech (Cam) :

I am fine but can't type.

Customer:

All else works except interior lights and high beams

Customer:

are you still checking or should I exit

GM Tech (Cam) :

Still looking.

Customer:

ok I'm here

GM Tech (Cam) :

Trying to find the link between high beams and interior lights, and it looks like theBCM or wiring around it is the link

GM Tech (Cam) :

The Body Control Module is the center dash use block.

Customer:

is there a part I can replace or should this be a job for an electrical shop

GM Tech (Cam) :

That would need programming so not something you can do yourself, sorry.

Customer:

so if I put a fuse in I am wasting my time

GM Tech (Cam) :

If it pops, yes.

Customer:

is it safe to continue driving the car as is?

GM Tech (Cam) :

Yes, other than not having high beam lighs and interior lights.

Customer:

should I take the car to a GM dealer or any auto electrical shop would do it right

GM Tech (Cam) :

I Want to say the dealer because they can program it much easier than the other shop

Customer:

Will the dealer cost more?

GM Tech (Cam) :

That is the down side, they may, but on the flip side, they may take less time confirming this and it may cost about the same. It is hard to say with out knowing the specifics of the shops, tech and labour rates.

Customer:

ok. I am accepting your answer and will make my own decision. Thanks for chatting.
