97 monte carlo: brake light way to get the old one out

trying to replace a brake light switch in a '97 monte carlo what's the best way to get the old one out

Hello and welcome to Just, Super mechanic here. About your vehicle.

You can squeeze the plastic tangs on the pedal side and the switch will pop out. Some of them you would have to cut one of the wires and solder it in to the new switch.


Remove or Disconnect

  1. Battery ground (negative) cable.
  2. Switch cover retaining screws.
  3. Switch cover.
    • Cut wire at switch.

Install or Connect

  1. Splice wires and solder
  2. Switch cover.
  3. Switch cover retaining screws.
  4. Battery ground (negative) cable.
