GM Tech (Cam) :

Welcome. Did you just remove the distributor or are you just checking it?

Customer:

yes had center head off to fix water leak

Customer:

yes

GM Tech (Cam) :

OK, did you mark the rotor and the distributor to see if you got it back in on the correct tooth?

GM Tech (Cam) :

BAsically, does it start and run /

Customer:

start and run good bu t light light stays on have a scanner have tried turn off light no good comes back on

GM Tech (Cam) :

Ok, the fine tuning is done with a scan tool. YOu need to look at the CMP retard. This is the relation between the cam and crank sensor. It needs to be +/- 2 deg for the light to go off. Find the number, turn the engine off, make the adjustment, start the engine and then rev over 1000 to update the reading.

Customer:

can i check tdc timing on this engine with light

GM Tech (Cam) :

No, it is completely computer controlled so it must be read with a scan tool

GM Tech (Cam) :

YOu an try guessing, rotate a bit, clear the code and see if it come back.

Customer:

thanks

GM Tech (Cam) :

NO problem.
