chevy: engine code is truck has lost smoke

i have an 05 chevy duramax that keeps throwing a an engine light. the engine code is 101. and my truck has lost power and there is a conciderable amount of black smoke coming out the exhaust.. what could be wrong ?

You might have a problem with the mass air flow sensor.
First, make sure you aren't losing engine vacuum to anm air leak.
Also, make sure the air filter is in good order.
If they look good, try disconnecting the electrical connecter on the mass air flow sensor and see if the problem lessens. (Sometimes it will get worse).
The mass air flow sensor is located on the hose coming from the air filter box.
You can also try cleaning the mass air flow sensor. Make sure to use something not too harsh to clean it. The electricals in the mass air flow sensor are sensitive.
