Service and Repair

HEATER CORE

NOTE: The OEM service manual does not provide images for this procedure.

TOOL REQUIRED:

  • J 38543 Heater Hose Clamp Tool

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

  1. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
  2. Drain coolant.
  3. Rotate engine forward.
  4. Both heater hoses at heater core.
  5. Right and left instrument panel sound insulators.
  6. Rear compartment heat duct adapter bolt/screw and adapter.
  7. Heater outlet duct bolts and duct.
  8. Heater core cover.
  9. Heater core.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

  1. Heater core.
  2. Heater core cover. TIGHTEN
    • Screws to 3 NM (27 lb. in.).
  1. Heater outlet duct and bolt/screws. TIGHTEN
    • Screws to 2 Nm (18 lb. in.).
  1. Rear compartment heat duct adapter and bolts/screws. TIGHTEN
    • Bolts/screws to 3 Nm (27 lb. in.).
  1. Right and left instrument panel sound insulators.
  2. Both heater hoses and clamps to heater core.
  3. Rotate engine back.
  4. Refill coolant.
  5. Air cleaner and duct assembly. TIGHTEN
    • Bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb. in.).
Inlet

 

Heater Hoses

Remove or Disconnect

 

  1. Rotate engine forward.
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Hose from heater core.
  4. Hose from inlet pipe.
  5. Hose.

Install or Connect

  1. Hose.
  2. Hose to inlet pipe.
  3. Hose to heater core.
  4. Rotate engine back.
  5. Refill cooling system.
Outlet

 

Heater Hoses

Remove or Disconnect

 

  1. Drain cooling system.
  2. Outlet hose from heater core.
  3. Outlet hose from outlet pipe.
  4. Outlet hose.

Install or Connect

  1. Outlet hose.
  2. Outlet hose to outlet pipe.
  3. Outlet hose to heater core.
  4. Refill cooling system.
Rotating Engine

 

Engine Mount Strut Assembly - Clevis Style

Tool Required
J 41131 Engine Tilter

Remove or Disconnect

 

  1. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
  2. Put transaxle assembly in "NEUTRAL."
  3. Torque strut-to-engine bracket bolts (334) and swing torque struts aside.
  4. Install J 41131 and rotate engine forward.

Install or Connect

  1. Rotate engine backward and remove J 41131.
  2. Torque strut-to-engine bracket bolts (334).
  3. Put transaxle assembly in "PARK."
  4. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
