How do you remove the charcoal canister from a 2002 Chev trailblazer 4x4?

Welcome. I will try my best to help you and in order to do that, I need you to describe as best you can because I only know as much about your problem as you have told me in your post, so my answer will be based on what you have posted. Please feel free to reply as needed.

Is this the carbon canister?

If so, then you need to remove the fuel tank shield to get at it.

  • Raise and support the vehicle.
  • Remove the frame brace mounting bolts.
  • Remove the frame brace.
    Object Number: 730787  Size: SH

  • Remove the fuel tank shield to the frame retaining bolts and nut.
  • Remove the fuel tank shield from the frame.
  • Object Number: 730716  Size: SH

  • Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) vapor pipe (4) from the EVAP canister (3).
  • Disconnect the EVAP vent pipe (2) from the EVAP canister (3).

  • Disconnect the EVAP purge pipe (2) from the EVAP canister (1).

    Important: Do not pry against the surface of the evaporative emissions canister. This could damage the canister.

  • Remove the EVAP canister (3) from the front tab of the canister bracket (1).

  • Insert a flat head screwdriver as indicated in illustration.

  • Pry the canister away from the top tab as indicated in graphic and repeat the process on the lower tab.
  • Slide the canister forward to disengage the rear tab.

  • If replacing the EVAP canister bracket (1), remove the canister bracket retaining bolts (2) and remove the bracket.

    I am guessing we are talking about something different because it's above the cross member where I need to have removed before I can get the transmission out.
    Yes, the instructions I have mentioned are to get at that. YOu need to take the skid shield off to get at that.
