Customer Question

My window will not roll up or down in my 2003 Chevy Silverado. I have a manual window crank. It seems like something is binding up in the cables. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to Just answer.com, Super mechanic here. About your vehicle.

The cables sometimes get all jammed up in the regulators. What I do is replace the window regulator when they do.

Window Regulator Replacement - Front Door

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the window glass.
  2. Remove the trim panel.
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the window to the regulator

How do you raise the window? It will not roll up or down.
Expert:  Super Mechanic replied 5 years ago.
What I do in that case is take the regulator loose and then get the window to where I can get to the bolts to unbolt it from the regulator.
    Customer: replied 5 years ago.
How do you secure the window so that it does not come back down while you are replacing the regulator?
Expert:  Super Mechanic replied 5 years ago.

They actually have a suction cup tool for that, but I normally use some masking tape over the top of the door frame to hold the window up.
