1991 Chevy S10: wont start..start without..priming carburetor

This answer was rated:

1991 Chevy S10 won't start without priming carburetor with gas first. Any ideas on diagnosing/repairing problem?

HelloCustomer your S10 is fuel injected. If you are adding fuel into the throttlebody to get it running, it's most likely that your fuel pressure is a little lower than necessary to start the truck. Step one for you is to check for fuel pressure. You should have 9-13 psi. Checking for fuel pressure is not as easy on this vehicle as some others. If it's lower your fuel pump is to blame. You need to disconnect the pressure hose and insert test adapters to hook the guage inline. Let me know what you find.

Your JA Expert,

Initially, the truck started after adding fuel to the throttlebody. However, it will no longer start.

If you add fuel now, will it start and stall or no signs of life what-so-ever?

It will start, but shuts off almost immediately.
Then I feel confident in telling you that your fuel pump is your issue. Since we definately have a case where it degraded from running to this point, we know that spark is ok, and i'm sure fuel injector pulse is ok. Replace the fuel pump and the fuel filter and you should be on the road again and never have to prime it again.
