2005 chevy Monte Carlo LT: you change a speed sensor..disconnect

How do you change a speed sensor in a 2005 chevy Monte Carlo LT and do you also need to disconnect the battery?
Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
  2. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
  3. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.graphic
  4. Remove the VSS bolt (9).

  5. Remove the VSS (10) from the extension case.
  6. Remove the O-ring (11) from the VSS (10).graphic


  • Install the O-ring (11) to the VSS (10).
  • Install the VSS (10). Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
  • Install the VSS bolt (9). Tighten the bolt (9) to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
  • Connect the VSS electrical connector.
  • Install the right front tire and wheel.
  • Lower the vehicle

    Do I have to disconnect the battery?
    No. it is not neccesary to disconnect battery.
