Tahoe: headlight..The running lights work but when I..tilt

Customer Question

My tahoe headlight will not turn on. The running lights work but when I turn the switch to on the lights go out. It seems to have started with someting in the tilt wheel. They used to flicker on and off with the movement of the tilt wheel but know there is nothing. Can you tell me what to look for?

Hello & Welcome,

Can you tell us the Year of you Tahoe?

Do you have a test light or mulimeeter you can use to do some tests?

Thanks

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
It is a 1998 LT and yes I do have a multimeter.

Thanks for that information.

Do the Daytime Running Lights work? That is, the headlights are on when the headlight switch is off (during the day).

Also, can you switch from high beams to low beams and have them work on either setting?

Thanks

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
The daytime running lights work. Parking lights also work when the switch is in position 1. No headlights at all, low beams, when the switch is in the on position, position 2. No high beams either, when in position 2.

OK - Thanks.

Below is a schematic for part of the Headlight & DRL system. I believe the easiest thing to test at this point it the DRL Relay, or perhaps just replace it as it is not that expensive and easy to get to.

The Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Relay is located under the left side of the Instrument Panel (IP), at the lower center of the convenience center.

I am hoping that it is not the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Module, which is located under the left side of the IP, taped to the IP harness, but you might want to check the connections to that module, because you mentioned that the lights would flicker when the tilt wheel was moved.

I will see if I can find a diagram of the exact locations of these parts.

Please let me know what you find, or if you need more information.

Thanks, XXXXX
