How do you change a transmission mount on a 1996 cavalier?

  • Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  • Remove the left front wheel and tire assembly.
  • Remove the left splash shield.
  • Place a jack under transmission pan to support transmission (use a block of wood between jack and transmission pan to avoid damaging the transmission pan)

  • Remove the pipe expansion bolt from the transmission support assembly.
    Object Number: 104231  Size: SH

  • Remove the transmission mount to body bolts.
  • Lower the engine/transmission assembly just enough to be able to remove the transmission mount from the bracket.

  • Remove the transmission mount.
