1998 cavalier: starter..troubleshoot list is..ignition switch

Customer Question

new starter, battery checks ok - next on troubleshoot list is ignition switch replacement...books do not explain how to replace for 1998 cavalier 2.4L

There is actually a recall on this problem. It seems that laying on the key in the event that the engine doesn't start.. actually overheats the switch, and can even melt worong. So you will want to call the dealer with your VIN to see if the recall procedure has been performed on your Cavalier.

Other than that.... The ignition switch replacement is not that bad of a deal. You do have to pull the steering column, though. Those instructions should be in your book.
