The fuel indicator on my 2006 Chevy Malibu is not working

Resolved Question:

The fuel indicator on my 2006 Chevy Malibu
is not working - it stays on the full level and from time to time drops to empty and the low fuel light comes on. Also the car
goes thru brake pads like they are going
out of style. We live in Eastern Kentucky
(MOUNTAINS).
Thanks

The fuel gauge problem is most likely the sending unit in the fuel tank, this is a common problem on this vehicle as for the brakes wearing out about all you can do is install the best brakes you can afford living in the mountains will lower the mileage the brakes last but it should not be a extreme problem unless cheap pads are being used.

I failed to ask if the sensor replacement would be a complicated andexpensice repair

It is a bit of a job the whole fuel tank needs to be removed and then the sending unit can be removed from the tank. This is a pretty expensive part because you will be buying a complete unit fuel pump/sending unit probably around $400.00 for the part.
