2003 chevy: s-10 gave me a trouble code (p0101)..real problem

Customer Question

my 2003 chevy s-10 gave me a trouble code (p0101). I know what the code stands for but what is the real problem?

Welcome spike. This codes simply means the readings from the mass air flow sensor in the air duct at the air filter do not match the readings expected based on the throttle position and MAP sensors. The first thing I would do is look at your air filter. Often the front inside edge where the screw for the cover is, gets damaged on the air filter. The resulting dirty air coats the wires of the MAF and faulty readings are the result. I would clean the sensor with carb cleaner, check the air filter and replace it if needed.
