How do I replace the thermostat on my wifes 2001 chevy malibu. The car never warms up. It looks like the themostat housing will hit the exhaust manifold before I can remove the thermostat. I hope theat the manifold doesn't need to come off. Once again they build the car so that it costs a fortune to get it fixed. Thanks
You are correct. The Exhaust Crossover needs to be removed first.

That is the Pipe / Hose that sits in front of the Thermostat Housing. |
Usually you can work around it, but here is procedure for removal:
BYPASS HOSE
