I had it wired like the diagram you sent me but it still doesnt work. When I try and start it the carburator loads up and it back fires from the carburator and out the exhaust. Do I have something else wrong with the car?? Could it be bad spark plug wires??

Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 8 years ago.

Did you try both diagrams,,,,if you notice they had a 454 built by Pontiac and one built by Olds,,,,and they used both of them in your vehicle.

Customer: replied 8 years ago.
Yes I noticed and they are both wired the same way
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 8 years ago.

Sorry about that,,,i sent you both for the pontiac 455,,,this is for the Olds 455 and its definatly different,,,,,,sorry again. Let me know how it comes out.

Hello again,

OK I tried it that way and it still wont start. I'm going to accept your answer but do you think there is something else wrong with the car?? What else could be the matter?
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 8 years ago.

Hi there,

I'll bet that the timing chain has slipped. You should run a compression test to confirm this,,,,it was very common on these engines.
