The plugs on a 2004 Avalanche the plug wire boot..pull..spark plug

when replacing the plugs on a 2004 Avalanche the plug wire boot has a stainless steel round cover over it do i just pull the boot off the plug or do I have to pull or remove the stainless steel cover also to get access to the spark plug ?
