2001 Chevy Monte Carlo: the water pump..bolt..power steering pump

Resolved Question:

I am replacing the water pump on a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo. How do I remove the left bottom bolt ? It is behind the pully on the power steering pump. 3800 engine

  • Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  • Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  • Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  • Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  • Remove the power steering pressure line from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
  • Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .

  • Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts from the power steering pump.
  • Remove the power steering pump assembly.
  • Remove the power steering pump pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  • Remove the power steering pump reservoir from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  • Removal Procedure

    1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
    2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
    3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.

    4. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
    5. Remove the water pump pulley.
    6. Remove the power steering pump and reposition. refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
