Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement (RPO L61)

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system.
    Object Number: 746055  Size: SH

  2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
    Object Number: 789955  Size: SH

  3. Remove the bolts that secure the thermostat housing to the water pump feed pipe.
    Object Number: 789956  Size: SH

  4. Remove the feed pipe.
    Object Number: 951651  Size: SH

  5. Remove the thermostat and retaining sleeve, noting the orientation for installation.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 951651  Size: SH

  1. Install the thermostat and retaining sleeve with the dimple placed into the housing slot.
    Object Number: 789956  Size: SH

    Important: Lubricate the O-ring with soapy water or coolant before installing the O-ring in the water pump.

  2. Install the feed pipe that connects the thermostat housing to the water pump.

  3. Install the bolt that secures the water pump feed pipe.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (18 lb in).

  4. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Fill the cooling system.

What side of the car is it on

Never done one myself, but from looking at the location in the picture it should be on the back toward the firewall on the driver side. Just look and see which side the exhaust pipe is on. Thanks
