Here are the correct specs and procedure for setting the timing on an Impala which is the only car with a 5.7 in that year.

All I can do is give you the factory specs.for that year engine.

Since your engine is modified, then the spec would have to be determine by the engine builder. It may require some experimentation but I would expect the base timing to be somewhere around 8 to 15 deg BTDC with a full advance at higher RPM probably somewhere around 35 to 40 deg but those are just starting points.

You really should have posted these facts in your original question.
