how do you replace the ignition switch on a 2005 chevy trailblazer?

Ignition Switch

Removal & Installation

Except Saab

To Remove:

  1. Disable the SIR system by disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the left insulator panel and knee bolster from under the instrument panel (I/P).
  3. Remove the trim covers from the steering column.
  4. Release the ignition lock cylinder locking tab by inserting an allen wrench into the hole on the top of the ignition lock cylinder housing and pushing down.
    Ignition lock cylinder removal and installation (Except Saab)

     

  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition lock cylinder housing.
  6. Disconnect the passlock and key buzzer from the ignition lock cylinder housing.
    Use the special tool to release the tabs on the ignition switch

     

  7. Release the ignition switch tabs by inserting a J 42759 ignition switch connector release tool into the ignition lock cylinder housing.
    Ignition switch removal/installation

     

  8. Remove the ignition switch from the ignition lock cylinder housing.
  9. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

To Install:

Turn the gear to the position shown

 

  1. Turn the ignition switch gear until it is in the position shown above.
  2. Use a screwdriver to rotate the ignition lock cylinder housing gear counterclockwise until it hits a stop.
  3. Connect the ignition switch connector.
  4. Install the ignition switch into the ignition lock cylinder housing.
  5. Install the trim covers onto the steering column.
  6. Install the left insulator panel and knee bolster under the instrument panel (I/P).
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
Saab

To Remove:

  1. Remove the console shift lever bezel from the center console.
    Ignition switch and lock cylinder removal and installation (Saab)

     

  2. Detach the ignition switch and lock cylinder assembly from the center console.
  3. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

To Install:

  1. Attach the ignition switch and lock cylinder assembly to the center console. Torque the screws to 18 in-lb (2 Nm).
  2. Install the console shift lever bezel onto the center console.
  3. Connect the ignition switch connector.

do you need the j42759 release tool or can i make one . if not where can i buy one?
