1990 Chevy: 4x4..automatic transmission with overdrive..slipping

This answer was rated:

I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado Z71 4x4 with automatic transmission with overdrive. my problem is when i reach about 20-30 mph it feels like the transmission is slipping, it looses power from the moter to the drive train. But motor has plenty of power. Tranmission fluid smells like bbq pit. What could be the cause of the slipping? Please help

You should have the 4L60 or 700 r4 trans in this and from what you say it is just burned out. The clutches slip and cause the fluid to burn and smell bad. You are facing a trans overhaul to fix it.
