2000 chevy cavalier: more gas..crank..battery dies..starter

Customer Question

my 2000 chevy cavalier ran out of gas and after putting more gas in it it will not start again. It will crank for a while til the battery dies but does not appear to be a starter or charging problem. Battery is fine and holds a good charge. There is a theft device light that is illuminated when the key is clicked over. Fuel sending problem?

In tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. When you run a car out of gas, it pumps a lot of air through the pump which overheats it and causes some severe wear and many times, failure when they cool off.
You will need to use a fuel pressure gauge to verify this
