My 97 Lumina's air conditioning fan isn't working ( I believe shorted out due to a water leak). If I have the fan turned off then the fans in front of the radiator don't come on as quickly and the car runs warmer. Do I need to be concerned about the car overheating? Do I just leave the air conditioning fan knob turned on all the time regardless?
The fans at the radiator come on whenever the a/c is turned on. It does this to help prevent the engine and the refrigerant system from overheating. When the a/c is not turned on the only time it will come on is when the vehicle reaches the temperature preset into the pcm that indicates the cooling system is overheating and will turn on the fan. If you have the a/c turned on the temperature will read lower than without it on. As long as the temperature gauge does not go into the danger zone on the gauge you are ok.
