Has he tried to log on to Facebook again? He may have been logged out, perhaps.
Is there a problem with the way his Facebook app, on the cell phone, responds when he tries to use it?
What cell phone does he have, by maker and model # ?
If he knows how to delete the Facebook app (or, icon, or link) and then re-load it again, that's the right thing to try.
It may be difficult, but to make sure the account is in good status, you might want to try logging in to it using a computer, or in other words, log in on a different device to check the account status.
Go to a computer with an internet connection.
Start a web browser program (Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox, or other programs of similar type, are all web browsers.)
Enter, in the Address field (not the Search field!) the address:
and press the RETURN key on the keyboard, once.
Then enter the username of the Facebook account.
Then enter the password ***** the Facebook account (both of those into appropriate fields on the web page, for logging into or signing into your Facebook account.)
Then try to sign in, log in, by submitting the username and password.
See if that allows access to the Facebook account. If it does, the account status is not the problem.
