Hi,
You can buy it in any Apple Store, or order it online.

Go to:

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone/iphone4s

Select a color, and then scroll down and click "Get unlocked and contract free".

Thanks,

J.

I already knew that....but those stores I Phones are basically same price as Verizon, i.e., I need to know whree I can buy one and just ad to my current contract...isn't 'retail' price in same range as verizon, like 500. to 700. dollars? If so, that doesn't help me...so same question but cheapeer price for "just a phone"...?

You basically have two options.
You can buy an iPhone with a contract, from Verizon, ATT, etc - and then you pay around $200, but you commit to 2 years. This way the carrier subsidizes some of the cost.

Your other option is to buy the phone at full price - for around $600. In this case, you do NOT commit to 2 years, and you can connect/disconnect the phone as you please.

Hope this makes sense,

J.

I already knew that. Don't want to pay 649.00 (actual amount) to verizon. Was looking for other options.....less cost. Do you know of any other possibilities? besides Craigslist , I found a site www.greatlysale.com

apparently based in China for online orders or any other reputable online site? Checked Amazon also

I spoke to several customers who bought phones from China. They got knockoffs that only look like iPhones, but were not the real thing.

The cost of iPhones are pretty solid - you won't find prices that are considerably lower. If you are willing to settle for a used device, you can get one at around 30 or maybe even 4 percent off that - lots of those are for sale on eBay.

I would really advise you not to get a Chinese phone - save yourself the heartache.

thanks for the China thing. Good info....what's your opinion of craigslist? i.e. risky, could have been stolen?, somethings wrong with it and got it from a friend and can't return through provider now? or something fishes cuz found a few....120.00 to 250.00? Last question I swear :)

Well...craiglist is safer than China, but still - lots of scams going on, and no insurance or assurance.
If you buy using eBay/PayPal, you have insurance in case something goes wrong, so you get your money back. Since you are about to shell out 300-400 bucks, I'd want that insurance!
