I'd be more than happy to assist you. Please remember to rate me answer based on my assistance, don't rate me based on the fact that you may not like the answer. Don't shoot the messenger.
There are two possibilities here.
Digitizers can go bad due to age and defect, it can go bad due to excessive pressure such as being smooshed in a bad/purse or pocket. It can also fail after being dropped.
If your digitizer is bad, you can have it repaired under warranty, if it is under warranty still. You can have it replaced by a 3rd party servicing center, or you can try to replace the digitizer yourself. Please let me know if you'd like further information on these options.
If you want to give the factory reset a try, please keep in mind that you will WIPE the phone completely. You will loose phone numbers, contacts, emails, text messages etc. It will be like your phone was just purchased. This may fix the issue or may not. If the issue is in fact hardware related then this wouldn't have an effect.
But it's worth a try. You most likely need to slide out your keyboard to type the following code(s)
*2767*3855#
You should have the option to hard reset the phone.
