Ok, thank you for that piece of information.
There's only four possibilities to why your phone would give you that message:
1) You're out of funds but the updater is delayed, therefore you're hearing the wrong balance
2) You haven't used your phone in over 30 days therefore your service is suspended
3) Your phone is defective
4) There's a miscommunication between your phone and the network
I've spoken with an expert who actually works for Verizon and this is usually able to be solved (unless the problem is #3, which is unusual). You'll have to contact a corporate owned Verizon store and have them look up your account. They will be able to eliminate options #1, #2 and #4 for you right over the phone.
