Mike :

Hi, have you tried a hard restart? Are you familiar with that process?

Customer:

No. not familiar with the process.

Mike :

Ok... sounds like you just need to do a hard restart...

Mike :

Hi. Thanks for posting your question on JustAnswer!

To perform a hard restart, hold both the sleep/wake and home buttons until the phone turns off and you see the Apple logo appear. Once that logo appears, you can release both buttons.

Customer:

Let me now how...

Customer:

I'll give it a try.

Mike :

...the key there is holding both buttons down securely. It may take up to about 10 seconds.

Customer:

That did it! Thanks for the info. What caused it to just die like that??

Mike :

Well, it, like all phones, just crashes or freezes from time to time and needs to be hard restarted. With other devices, you would typically remove the battery an reinsert, but you can't remove the battery on the iPhone so Apple made this key combination do a hard restart.

Mike :

...there's no "real" explanation. It just happens from time to time. You didn't do anything wrong. It just froze in standby mode.

Customer:

Thanks again.
