I am going to buy my friend's iPhone 3GS (he has service with AT&T). I have T-Mobile. Do I need to unlock and jailbreak his phone or just unlock it? What steps do I need to take to get the iPhone up and running on T-Mobile?

You need to first Jailbreak the phone. That will allow you to upload third party softwares on the phone. Then using a special software you will have to Unlock it. All this had to be done using special tools that you can buy easily at ebay.com for less than $5

Will you please give me links and specific steps to jailbreak and unlock my friend's iPhone 3GS? He is currently running Firmware 3.1.2. He currently has the phone and uses it on AT&T's network. Does my friend need to jailbreak and unlock it (while he is still using the phone with AT&T) or can I jailbreak and unlock the phone (if the phone is not activated)? I am with T-Mobile. Will you give specific details of what to do? I keep hearing about Blackra1n and Icy. You also said I could buy something off eBay to unlock the phone, will you give me a link? If you give me detailed info that is step by step, I will leave you a bonus. Thanks for your help.
HiI can help you with that dont worry.It is better to unlock it while the ATT working Sim card is still in it. Or you can borrow anyones working ATT Sim card while unlocking it.Please let me know the Modem Firmware of that phone by going to Settings > AboutAlso ask your friend if he/she ever attempted to jailbreak or unlock it .. and how ?AndyAndy40345.1367580208
He said his modem Firmware is 05.11.07. He has never tried to jailbreak or unlock his phone. My friend is going to buy the new iPhone June 24th, and he wanted me to make sure that jailbreaking and unlocking his phone won't mess anything up (downloading his apps and contacts) with his new phone.
HelloI am using an iPhone 3GS myself and I have jailbreaked and unlocked it too, so dont worry about it. Andy,I told my friend how easy it was to jailbreak and unlock his phone with Blackra1n and Blacksn0w. His only concern is that the jailbreak and unlock will cause him problems when he goes to download his apps and contacts (from his iPhone 3GS) to his new iPhone 4G. The jailbreak and unlock will not effect any of this will it? After he jailbreaks and unlocks the iPhone, will he have any changes that will effect him negatively. What can I tell him to put him at ease? Hopefully these will be my last questions for you. Thanks for all your help.David
Hi David,The jailbreak and unlock will not effect any of this will it? He need not use he iPhone 3GS to transfer any data. He needs to sync his 3GS to iTunes right now itself ... and then later sync his iPhone 4 to iTunes to update it. And even if he does need it, the jailbreak and unlock will not effect it.WARNING : Tell him NOT to upgrade the iPhones OS or Firmware when iTunes asks him to. Keep it at 3.1.2 and 05.11.07 ... and you are all setAfter he jailbreaks and unlocks the iPhone, will he have any changes that will effect him negatively. What can I tell him to put him at ease?There wont be any tangible effect at all. He will use his iPhone like he normally does. It is just a software thing. Not to worry at all. Tell him to google about Blackra1n and read reviews. Its the best and easiest unlock tool. Hi,If your friend has a Mac and if your friend is going to Jailbreak and Unlock the phone using his Mac, he needs to click on Mac linkIf you have a PC and if you are going to Jailbreak and Unlock the phone using your PC, you needs to click on PC link.It does not matter that he has a Mac and you have a PC ... you just need that blackra1n to unlock the phone ... and once thats done, you can use the iPhone with a Mac or a PC .. it does not matter :-)Feel free to ask any question or concern you may have.
