Female 18 year old cat will drink water but not eat

Customer Question

female 18 year old cat will drink water but not eat anything.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. What is the cat's name?
Customer: Bella
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Bella?
Customer: She would normally eat can cat food, dry food, or even tuna but now she does not eat anything. I think she may be ready to die. She is pretty old.

I'm sorry to hear of this with Bella. You may be correct. While anorexia in a much younger cat can arise from the simplest dietary indiscretion, when it arises in an 18 year old I need to concerned about much more dire disorders such as chronic renal failure and age-related malignancies. If Bella hasn't eaten for 3 or more consecutive days she's in trouble and her vet will want to perform a thorough physical exam including diagnostics in the form of blood and urine tests to see if Bella can be helped in a conservative manner.
