Customer Question

My 3 yr. old male cat has not eaten in two days, is listless and is walking very slowly. I don't see any evidence of urine or feces in his box. Every now and then he meows in a way that tells me something is wrong. Can you tell me what could be wrong

If he is indoor only one of the first things that comes to mind is a urinary tract blockage.

The tube that the urine goes through from the bladder to the penis is called the urethra.

In make cats there is a turn that narrows in the urethra so it can become blocked with crystals and debris.

When that happens urine backs up into the bladder. Then potassium leaks out of the bladder and slows the heart.

It is also very painful so they may cry or vocalize.

They can also be sensitive if you touch their lower abdomen.

It is a medical emergency and an immeadiate vet visit is in order.

He could also have eaten something that he should not have and now there is a gastrointestinal blockage. But normally when that happens you would find vomit around the house.

If he is an outdoor kitty as well he may have had some kind of trauma such as a fall or he may have been hit by a car.

But it sounds like he needs to see a vet today.

Does that help? Do you have any additional questions?
