Looking to make sure it's safe and a quality multivitamin for my cat and dog
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 7 months ago.

The cat product isn't a multivitamin. It's designed to ameliorate the symptoms of osteoarthritis. The dog product has everything but the kitchen sink in it...including proprietary ingredients that I'm unable to assess. It's safe but most likely overkill. It's the type of product I'd give once weekly rather than daily - particularly if your Shaemus is eating a high-quality dog food. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

Wow... so once a week is fine .. Does the cat vitamin work once a week too?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
What would happen if I gave it more than once a week?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
We make homemade pet foods for our pets, and want to ensure they get the proper amount of vitamins...
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
We are thinking of selling it to our friends, as we have many who are looking for a great multivitamin.
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 7 months ago.

There are no vitamins in that cat product. Look for a feline vitamin-mineral supplement or simply add a kids complete vitamin and mineral supplement at a dose of 1/2 pill daily. You also need to make sure that taurine 1000mg per 1/4 tsp is given at 1/4 tsp daily in your home-cooked feline recipes.

If you give the dog product more than once weekly, there will be quite a lot of vitamins and minerals ending up in a dog's urine and feces!

Please let me know what are the key components of the dog and cat vitamins I should be looking for. We are looking for the essentials. ( ex: calcium, vitamin A)...
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 6 months ago.

Both the dog and cat vitamin and mineral ingredient lists contain all of the essentials. The wafer isn't complete but isn't designed to be.

Hi Doctor,Based on the following recipe, what changes would you suggest we make to make it a better quality productI will remove the grapeseed.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
We are looking to distribute the product if our pets like it. What changes would you suggest.
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 6 months ago.

The dog vitamin/mineral recipe is excellent. The cat recipe isn't a multivitamin/mineral supplement. It's designed to address osteoarthritis in cats. You'll need to find a multivitamin/mineral supplement for cats and mimic its recipe. I'm not qualified to analyze full recipes manufactured by you - only products already manufactured by well-known companies. You would need a qualified veterinary nutritionist to do so.
