He has been throwing up few days... when I pet s stomach

Customer Question

He has been throwing up for a few days... when I pet his stomach area he flinches and acts like he's going to throw up again. Just today he has developed some discharge around his eye and it's starting to swell shut a bit
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the cat eat anything unusual?
Customer: It's not really my cat or I would take it to the vet
JA: What is the cat's name and age?
Customer: Walter... not sure on age maybe about a year or so old
JA: How old is Walter?
Customer: about a year
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Walter?
Customer: He gets out sometimes and probably eats lizards or other insects

Hello. Thanks for the question.

With upper respiratory signs and vomiting, I would definitely get him to a vet. I'm sure he's going to be dehydrated and need some fluids to help rehydrate him. He will also likely need some anti-nausea meds (Cerenia, Anzemet) and potentially some antibiotics like Clavamox for the upper respiratory bug.

For now, if you want to give something over the counter to help with the nausea, there are 2 options. They can be given together if needed:

1. Famotidine (Pepcid)- 5 mg every 12-24 hours

2. Meclizine (Antivert)- 12.5 mg every 24 hours

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
