Customer Question

why is my cat's abdomen breathing very fast and hard? He purrs when I pick him up, and seems to have no pain. Now he appears to be sleeping, but his belly is continuing to
rise and fall rapidly and forcefully. Please help me understand this, and tell me if he needs emergency help asap or if I should wait until morning. Thank you very much!

Welcome! Thanks for asking your question. My name is***** am a licensed veterinarian and I will be assisting you today. First I need to ask you a few questions so that I can be well informed and give you the best advice.

1- How long has this been going on?

2- Any pre existing medical conditions?

3- Is his abdomen distended or larger than usual?

I just noticed this about one hour ago. His belly is rising and falling forcefully and it appears to be very rapid. This afternoon, he was
wheezing with his head down, as if he was trying to vomit a fur ball. His abdomen doesn't seem to be distended. 19 days ago, he had a benign lump removed from behind his ear. He had general anesthesia. He seemed fine until this afternoon.
