I have a 5 year old cat who had a kidney stone operation 3

Customer Question

I have a 5 year old cat who had a kidney stone operation 3 years ago. Her stones have reappeared (x-ray taken). She has been on antibiotics off and on now for 3 years. She refuses to eat the UTI cat food. I took her to the vet this month and he put her on Veraflox 25mg/ml x 7 days. She wasn't getting any better, so I gave it another 7 days. What should I do?

Hello, I am sorry to hear you are worried about your cat. My name is Rebecca. I am a veterinarian with Just Answer. Were the stones analyzed when she had surgery; do you know what kind of stones she had? There are stone dissolving diets, but they only work for certain types of stones. What is the UTI cat food you are trying (that she won't eat)? Veraflox is an antibiotic that will help a bladder infection, but not bladder stones. If she has the most common type of stones, called "struvite", putting her on Hills C/D or S/D diet or Royal Canin urinary S/O diet may dissolve the stones without surgery. These foods are available as canned (wet) or dry formulas.
