I was just administering Ponizural to my 5 week old foster

Customer Question

I was just administering Ponizural to my 5 week old foster kittens. All 5 doses were in 1 syringe... Big mistake. My dog bumped me & I administered .6ml to 1 kitten. I'm trying to look up toxicity levels & haven't found any reliable information yet.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Yes, there's a dearth of information available about overdosage/acute toxicity of either toltrazuril (the parent compound of ponazuril) or ponazuril itself. The only published information in Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, 8th Ed., Plumb, 2015 is "Doses of up to 10X in horses were tolerated without significant adverse effects. 5X overdoses in poultry have been tolerated without clinical signs noted. In all species, decreased water intake has been seen if overdoses are greater than 5X. 6X daily doses primarily caused loose feces in horses." How is the kitten doing, please?
