Customer Question

Hi Dr. ***** *****. My name is***** just started researching what could be causing our cats sudden hissing / growling (seemingly at random)
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: She'll go from purring "snuggle-mode" to hissing (ears back, showing teeth) back to purring and wanting attention all within a second or two
JA: OK got it. Last thing — Veterinarians generally expect a deposit of about $19 to help with your type of question (you only pay if satisfied). Now I'm going to take you to a page to place a secure deposit with JustAnswer. Don't worry, this chat is saved. After that, we will finish helping you.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner, Ryan. Clarifying the etiology of such behavior can be a challenge necessitating quite a range of diagnostics. The sudden mood changes aren't likely to have a behavioral basis but, instead, a medical one. Intermittent pain such as is seen with gastrointestinal cramping or passing a urolith (urinary tract stone) through her ureter should be considered. I would have a basic diagnostic panel of blood and urine tests performed as well as an abdominal ultrasound paying particular attention to both her gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
