I have a 10 yr old red DSH and he has a hyperthyroid

Customer Question

I have a 10 yr old red DSH and he has a hyperthyroid problem.
The vet put him on thryroid pills but he can't tolerate them, vomits.
I've been waiting for thryroid transdermal medicine to come in that my vet ordered to see we can control it that way, but this morning I woke up to him not being able to lift up his head and is walking a bit crooked. could this be a stroke of some kind he during the night?
I've been feeding him real tuna with sticky white rice which he loves and has been eating well since I started that.

Yes, Fran, I'm concerned that he's quite hypertensive at this time and this does predispose to stroke in hyperthyroid cats. Not being able to life the head can also indicate the weakness associated with hypokalemia - low serum potassium level - which is all too commonly found with chronic renal insufficiency. If you have a 24-hour facility available to you it would be prudent to have him attended to at your earliest convenience. His blood pressure and serum potassium level (among other basic testing) need to be assessed.
