Have any blood tests been done? When you say she is failing, is she not eating? Any vomiting?

Prednisolone is a steroid, similar to cortisone. It has many effects. It can stimulate appetite, reduce inflammation, help some with pain. We use it to treat many conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, anemia, a type of cancer called lymphoma. It can help with vomiting, neurologic conditions, and arthritis.
