The concurrence of vomiting, vocalizing, and inappropriate eliminative behavior is pathognomonic (particularly indicative) of hyperthyroidism in a 12.5 year old cat. Supportive evidence of hyperthyroidism is a cat acting younger than his age and hungrier than usual yet losing weight. 35% of hyperthyroid cats are also polydipsic (increased thirst). Gastrointestinal distress - vomiting and/or diarrhea are commonly seen. Before considering behavioral modification, a senior/geriatric diagnostic panel of blood and urine tests should be rewarding. Please fast Samme for at least 4 hours prior to a blood draw for the most accurate results. Never restrict water, however. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
