Customer Question

My cat showed signs of blood at his rectum this morning. No blood where he slept. Acting normal otherwise.

Hello and thanks for trusting me to help you and Ed today. I am a licensed veterinarian with over 25 years experience and would be happy work with you.

Was the blood bright red in color? Did you notice it on his rectum or did he pass it with a bowel movement?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will notify you if his symptoms worsen. He seems his usual happy self now. There is no more blood. Spirits good. Hungry as usual.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The blood, a pinkish color, not bright red. I wiped it and it has not returned since. I am watching him closely.

I'm sorry that I am not set up to use live phone services. (It was on my to do list for today!). As far as Ed, I would not be too worried at this time, but if you see it again, or if you note him paying extra attention to grooming his rectal area, you may want to have his anal glands checked.

Other possibilities would be from his urinary tract as well, so make sure to monitor his litter box habits today.

Thank you.

I will also see some cats that will pass small amounts of blood tinged mucus occasionally. Things they ingest can irritate the GI tract as it passes. (like hair) Not a big concern unless if keeps happening.
